What in tar-nation?

A roof shingle is pretty much the same no matter who makes it. A little bit of asphalt, a little bit of fiberglass, some colored crushed stone embedded into the surface, and there it is; A roofing shingle. With that said, we prefer to install Owens Corning shingles over any other brand. They have a high-quality sealant, hold their granules well (that’s the colored crushed stone) , and if something does go wrong, they take care of their customers. (As long as the shingles were installed properly)

So where was I? Oh yeah, a shingle is a shingle, unless…it’s a Duration shingle by Owens Corning. Check out this video:

You may be asking yourself why Owens Corning is the only company who has gone to the trouble of installing this nail strip onto their shingles. And you may have surmised by now that I am prepared to answer your question. The reason is because nail guns very often cause damage to shingles, which makes them much more susceptible to wind damage. And while Owens Corning does recommend that their shingles be hand-nailed, they know that hardly anyone does that anymore. Even we are beginning to use nail-guns after a long battle not dissimilar to that which once took place between those who preferred the iron horse to the more traditional equine companion. To quote a movie i once saw, “You can’t fight what’s comin’ “, and i’ll just add that it already done came anyway. So here we are, and thankfully Owens Corning made a product that stands out from the rest.
